It’s no secret that the world of yoga is rapidly changing. Biomechanics are dispelling a number of beliefs yoga teachers have long had about postural alignment. And an increasing number of alignment cues are proving to be outdated.
I’m sure you’ve been told at one point or another not to bend the knee past the ankle -- but why? Does it really injure the knee? Is there a way to bend the knee past the ankle that would prove not only safe, but beneficial?
In this 30-hour programme you will learn how to break the rules of yoga alignment, liberate yourself from repetitive movement patterns, and uncover your body’s natural intelligence.
You’ll use a range of techniques and modalities to challenge your mobility, balance, strength, skill, and adaptability. You'll discover a greater potential, while increasing your embodied awareness.
There will be labs on cue refinement, using props to fortify your joints and enhance your practice, and exercises where you will integrate unconventional asana movements into your sequencing. You’ll even discover why bending the knee past the ankle is a great thing after all!
Your comfort zone will be challenged. You will experience how different movement patterns support a strong and stable asana practice. And by the end of it, you’ll understand how you — and your students — can move well.

MEET YOUR TEACHER
Bruce believes yoga is a practice of doing and being. In the months following his first yoga class in 2005, Bruce started to see major shifts in his life which he can only attribute to yoga. He stopped smoking, he became kinder to others and to himself, he realised that there was more to life than his 9 to 5 in banking.
At that time, Bruce was a devotee to what is formerly known as Moksha Yoga. The accessibility, community, and awareness of the impact one makes on the environment is what led Bruce to taking the Moksha Yoga TT. It isn’t his only training, but it certainly laid a strong foundation.
In 2009, Bruce emigrated from Canada and in the years since then has lived and taught yoga in Singapore, Bali, Dublin, Bangkok, Hong Kong and San Francisco. An international yoga teacher and bona fide traveling yogi, Bruce has had the privilege of leading workshops, retreats, and trainings across Asia, Europe and Southern Africa.
Bruce has thousands of hours of trainings and has been lucky enough to study with renowned teachers like Briohny Smyth and Dice Iida-Klein, Jason Crandell, and Tiffany Cruickshank, to name a few. He believes that every teacher has something to share, and as a result of the many teachers he’s practiced with, his practice is as varied as it is colourful.
Bruce’s practice and thus teaching is multi-layered and influenced by the ongoing studies, both with teachers and through self, and uniquely the experiences and connections he has had through his globe-trotting.
His teaching style varies depending on the class he’s leading, the energy of the students, and his own frame of mind on that particular day. But whether the class is dynamic and energising, or grounding and nurturing, you can be assured that Bruce offers intelligence in his offerings that encourage awareness and introspection.
